The Winter Solstice on December 21st marks the shortest day of the year – and a turning point when days begin getting longer – along with ushering in Capricorn season.

Represented by the sea goat (a goat from the waist up with the tail of a fish), Capricorn can do the seemingly impossible – traverse the steepest, highest cliffs AND move smoothly through deep, mysterious waters. As a cardinal earth sign, Capricorn is associated with taking action in the physical realm – a very goat-climbing-a-mountain thing to do. But we can’t forget the fish-tail aspect of Capricorn that helps us understand how physical action should be backed by a greater depth of understanding.

Practical and grounded, Capricorn energy teaches us to get to work, yes, but it’s so much more than that. Capricorn also has an intuitive side that inspires us to build, reach, or create that which is aligned with our Truth and brings us deep fulfillment.

This kind of perseverance is especially needed as we officially enter into winter with the longest night of the year. Capricorn helps us remember that if we keep moving forward every day with determination, we are destined for a lighter and brighter future by the time Spring comes around.

Ruled by Saturn, Capricorn energy brings us structure and willpower. It’s the time of year to buckle down and make your ideas finally happen, but don’t forget to appreciate the journey and celebrate all of your progress along the way. While it can be helpful to hold yourself to high standards, if we never take a moment to appreciate how far we’ve come and what incredible work we have already done, then we can get stuck in a rut of constantly pushing towards the next goal with an attitude of never being or achieving enough. 

The structure Saturn brings to our lives is not so that we can fit into the other confining and restricting structures society has created and upheld in the past. Quite contrarily, Saturn wants us to discover what structures best support us in bringing our aspirations and purpose to life in the physical form. Saturn gives us the drive to build entirely new structures – structures that support the new kind of world we want to live in, instead of the oppressive and antiquated structures of the past.

This Capricorn Season, we are encouraged to put our dreams into action. How can you ground your lofty ideas and make progress with tangible and productive steps forward? How can you turn your Truth and inspiration into its physically manifested form? What structures are serving you in this pursuit? What structures only seem helpful, but beyond further inspection, are actually creating more stress and self-doubt? Release the intense critiques on yourself and your work, and instead shift your focus to the sense of fulfillment that every single step of the process brings you. It’s time to push forward, create tangible progress, and act on your loftiest goals, while simultaneously honoring your strength, wisdom, and perseverance. You got this, love. Now let’s make it happen.
